India Today: “ODISHA Train Accident: At least 280 died and thousands injured in an accident on Friday, June 2, after a collision occurred between the Coromandel Express and the Bengaluru Howrah Superfast Express. The Coromandel Express operates between Bengal’s Shalimar station in West Bengal and Chennai. The collision took place near Bahanaga railway station resulting in a significant number of casualties among the passengers, according to Odisha Chief Secretary Pradeep Jena.”

BBC: “A recovery operation is underway in India after hundreds of people were killed or injured in a three-train crash in the eastern Odisha state.

“The crash took place on Friday evening, after the Coromandel Express passenger train heading south derailed after hitting a stationary goods train.”

“Several carriages from the train ended up on the opposite track. Shortly afterwards a second passenger service, the Howrah Superfast Express, travelling in the opposite direction crashed into the derailed train.”
