The smoke drifting it’s way in eastern NY.
“Scientists from Stanford University and the University of California, San Diego, found that toxic plumes of smoke, which can blanket western states for weeks when wildfires are raging, are reversing decades of gains in cutting air pollution. While heat-related deaths have previously been predicted as the worst consequence of the climate crisis, researchers say that air pollution caused by smoke could be just as deadly.”
Fires Scorch Western Canada.
“At the time of publication, New York was sitting at third place on the IQAir’s Air quality and pollution city ranking with a US Air Quality Index of 158, or “unhealthy” according to IQAir.”
“Toronto, the highest Canadian city on the list, currently has the dubious honor of ranking second place as worst in the world at the time of publication, with a US AQI of 175 or “unhealthy.”
“More than 100 wildland fires raged across Western Canada in early May 2023, forcing tens of thousands of people in Alberta and British Columbia to evacuate. The fires destroyed homes and produced chimneys of smoke that reached into the upper troposphere.”
