Following the coupe President Mohamed Bazoum seeks U.S to intervene.
While the reasons for the coupe remain unclear; coupe leader Brigadier General Moussa Salaou was trained by the U.S. This is the 11th Nigerian coupe since 2008.
The U.S has approximately 1,000 troops in Niger and has also invested $100 million military drone base in the region.
In March, United States Vice President Harris visited three African countries at a time of fragile U.S.-Africa relations. The Vice President contributed U.S investments on Africa’s Green Energy Hydrogen resources.
